THE ART OF HEALTHY EATING

The culture of “eat healthy to live well” is the value to which Masserie di Sant’Eramo is inspired.

This philosophy is always more recognizes all over the world and it finds its maximum expression in the Mediterranean Diet as it represents the most complete answer to human being’s food needs, at any age.

“The Mediterranean Diet is much more than a simple way to eat. It promotes social interaction, since the shared meal is at the base of social customs and holidays shared by a given community and it has given rise to a remarkable body of knowledge, songs, stories, and legends. The Diet is founded on respect for the territory and biodiversity and guarantees the conservation and development of traditional activities and trades related to fishing and agriculture in the Mediterranean communities”.

With the following motivations, in November 2010, the Mediterranean Diet was recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. A heritage that connects eating habits of the people in the Mediterranean Sea basin, consolidated over the centuries and remained almost unchanged until the 1950s, and which goes far beyond a simple food list but concerns the culture of life, social, traditional, and agricultural practices.

As the word etymology suggests, The Mediterranean Diet represents a lifestyle, a way of living, a relational and cultural element which strengthens the sense of belonging and sharing between people living in the Mediterranean basin. The typical “eat together” of the Mediterranean Diet does not simply mean having a meal but it means strengthening the cornerstone of interpersonal relationships, promoting dialogue and creativity, bequeathing the identity and values of communities.
